MSP stands for Managed Services Program. It is a business model where a company outsources the management of their contingent (also known as contractor, extended, or flexible) workforce to a third-party expert partner. MSP partnerships drive cost savings and avoidance, process efficiencies, enhanced talent quality, improved visibility over spend as well as assistance in managing the risks associated with contractor management.  When managed well with a quality provider, an MSP can deliver on average costs savings between 10-20% in the first year.

The second model is the Direct Sourcing MSP. This means one provider takes care of contingent workforce management and directly sources a percentage of the temporary workers. In this case, the MSP takes care of payroll with a single invoice for the client, and a single time-sheeting process for hiring managers and contractors.
