How a change of career created a new sense of belonging. Simon’s story:

How a change of career created a new sense of belonging. Simon’s story:

Content Team
Only three months after entering the world of RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing) at Hudson RPO, Simon made his first-ever hire. Part of why many recruiters and talent specialists like Simon enjoy their role in an RPO so much is being able to go above and beyond for clients, as well as for their candidates. Simon felt like he could relate to the story of the candidate he helped into a new role, and it inspired him to share his own.
“I could relate to my candidate. Being able to dedicate time to our screening call made a real difference. She shared with me how she had been a stay-at-home parent and was looking to return to work. Our paths crossed at the right time, we worked together to present her suitability for the role to the hiring manager. The hiring manager was just as excited as I was when I first met the candidate, and she ended up being successful in the role.”

“I know what it is like to long for a change of career later in life. For me, that opportunity arrived when Hudson RPO gave me the chance to join their team and enter the world of recruitment. It is a chance I have jumped at.”

Simon with two young children
Before I started at Hudson RPO, I had been in industries like food, logistics and retail. The holiday period was always the busiest time of the year. Now, at 40 years old, I am working as a recruiter for a company that values our time and understands how important it is to spend time with my family.

“The set up in the Centre of Excellence is like a learning hub, with a never-ending supply of training, sharing of best practices, and the latest trends in the world of recruitment. It has been an excellent environment to familiarize myself with the ways we can connect top candidates with our clients. The variety of industries, languages, and roles that we work with daily, provide a fantastic way of learning on the job. Also, the support of the team is unlike anything else.”

Joining a new company can be daunting, especially when it involves a career change. Simon describes his experience after he was approached by a member of our internal recruitment team: “The conversation was very pleasant, and we kept on talking until the offer was on the table. I knew what to expect at every stage of the recruitment process. A modus operandi that I copied as ‘best practice’ in my current recruiting activities. Putting candidate experience at heart and communicating openly and consistently transforms the recruitment process for both candidates and clients.”
Coming into a new role, company or career can be a daunting experience. But Simon has risen to the challenge. Not only does he make a difference for his candidates, our clients, and the entire Hudson RPO team consider him irreplaceable. His final word of advice for anyone considering joining our team:
Working in the Edinburgh office means you can get involved in many activities, organised by your colleagues. For example, the film club (above), Friday socials, quizzes, and more.

“I suppose you could describe me as a bit of an introvert. I take a bit of time to come out of my shell. At Hudson RPO that was appreciated, allowing me to bring my true self to work. It does not matter if someone works on a different account, is your senior, manager or even a director, everyone is willing to help and wanted me to feel welcomed. Although I felt nervous to change careers at my age, I have never felt out of place since I started!

Does it sound like you would belong at Hudson RPO too? Do not hesitate to contact our internal recruiters for more information on current openings.

7-year milestone: Celebrating the Success of our Manila Centre of Excellence.

7-year milestone: Celebrating the Success of our Manila Centre of Excellence.

Content Team
January 2023 marks the seventh anniversary since the inception of our Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Manila. The CoE is at the heart of our operations in Asia Pacific, and home to some of the most skillful and dedicated recruiters in the Philippines. Their anniversary presents the perfect opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the team, and the milestones and successes achieved for our clients.

Setting up for success

Our Centres of Excellence are regionally centralised hubs of highly specialised talent and sourcing experts. These teams provide clients with access to niche sourcing expertise, advanced technologies, and market insights to fill positions faster and with exceptional quality candidates. Our Centres of Excellence are based in Manila, Edinburgh, Tampa, and service our clients on a global level.

Working with an RPO partner significantly decreases the average cost-per-hire, often by more than 50 percent. A tailored RPO solution can supplement hiring and helps you drive quality, efficiency, reduced costs and a reduction in the time to hire. There are different ways an RPO partnership can reduce costs:

It is no easy task to build and sustain relationships with top talent, especially when they might not be openly looking for a job change. But it is the key to effective candidate sourcing. With time zones, language differences, and the know-how of regional markets to consider; sourcing is round-the-clock work. When Hudson RPO opened its doors in Manila, we set out to service our clients with high-quality sourcing support, whenever and wherever. This allowed our clients to focus on their strategic business initiatives, while we delivered the talent required to support their ambitions.

Cameron Davidson, Director – Customer Success & Director – Manila CoE, was integral to the establishment of our Manila CoE:

“We started with a team of seven, which has now grown to a team of 190 (and counting) experts that specialise in a variety of industries like Pharma & Life Sciences, Financial Services, FMCG, Manufacturing and Technology on a global scale. With a full understanding of how to attract and retain talent across a variety of niches and markets, we can now service our clients with services ranging from sourcing to full-cycle recruitment solutions all over Asia Pacific and beyond,” Cameron explains.

A true partner for delivering excellence

Even though the Centre of Excellence is in Manila and operates across different time zones and countries, the support of this team is by no means an offshoring solution. Working with our CoE is like bringing new people into your existing team. Our specialists hit the ground running and are fully dedicated to your business and hiring goals. Many of our Manila based teams have travelled to meet our clients in-person and have been recognised for their outstanding achievement at our Hudson RPO quarterly and annual awards for excellence. Find out more about our sourcing services.

The expansion of our Manila Centre of Excellence has enhanced our ability to deliver exceptional services and value to our clients:

A client in the Transport Industry required a bespoke sourcing strategy to find and hire previously unseen roles in Australia. Not only did the team complete the project on time and in alignment with their vision, but they also delivered several, tailored sourcing strategies to promote diversity and inclusion.

For a client in the Financial Services industry, the team organised focus groups to inform their strategy. The innovative sourcing methods they delivered increased the hiring speed from one hire per month, to three hires per month, without ever sacrificing quality. Through its success, we have since scaled this from 1 to 45 fully dedicated resources.

Another example is a client for which our team developed market maps for their executive level roles. Market maps are an effective way to confidentially understand what a market looks like, in particular for senior, business critical, or hard to fill positions. Our Australian-based pharmaceutical client has since returned 11 more times to engage the help of our Manila team.

Leadership builds culture

Jamie Bais has been with the team since the very start as the Head of the Manila CoE.

Jamie

“The last seven years have been a whirlwind. So much work has been done to support our successes, to expand our services and the industries we specialize in. At the heart of our expansion and growth is the unique culture of our team, continuously looking to learn from each other, share best practices, and innovate. Their sense of partnership and support translates into everything they do for our clients.”

And it is not just our clients that are continually amazed by our team. All teams across our business have been inspired by the team’s incredible commitment, expertise, and their dedication to shaping the future of talent. Over the last seven years, the team has been a regular feature in many of our internal competitions like our Step Challenges, winners at our Aspire Awards (like Tom and Eugene, with Tom inducted to our hall of fame), and have shared their personal journeys at Hudson RPO with job seekers and their colleagues in other regions. (Click here to read the stories of Burg and Eugene).

The future is bright for our Manila CoE and with loads more in store, we are excited to see their continued growth and success. Kimberley Hubble, CEO APAC:

“Creating and evolving incredible teams is the first step in our mission and commitment to providing our clients with the best possible service. Through investing in our people, their capabilities and our culture, we ensure we are equipped to best serve our clients in this ever-changing world of talent. Our Manila Centre of Excellence is proof of that, and our broader business can’t wait to see what else can be achieved in the next seven years.”

Be inspired by our people who went above and beyond for others this year.

At Hudson RPO, we shape the future of talent. Every day, our people connect organizations and individuals to create opportunities and bring people and businesses closer to their ambitions. As a team of passionate individuals from all corners of the globe, it comes as no surprise that our people go above and beyond for others outside of the workplace as well. At the end of 2022, we wanted to take this opportunity to shine a spotlight on some of our exceptional employees giving back to their communities.

Small steps, big impact

Our EMEA region recently kick-started its partnership with the award-winning platform, Onhand. Onhand is an all-in-one tool to engage employees in local volunteering and climate action. The tool enables our people to help whenever and wherever suits them, either on their own or as part of a team. In a matter of weeks, the team has already made a big positive impact, completing 20 missions in 2 weeks.

Anna Lewandowska completed her first mission with the help of her son. “Today my son helped me complete my first mission from #onHand. We organized gifts for children in need of support this Christmas. There is still plenty to be done in my area!”

A couple of weeks later, Anna and her daughter embarked on a mission to bring Christmas cards and home baked-goodies to their neighbors.

Miles Stribbling, Head of Marketing EMEA & Americas was key in launching the partnership between OnHand and Hudson RPO. “OnHand is a great platform that makes it easier to help out, when and where you can. We have seen a massive uptake from our people and hope to continue our efforts!”

Family volunteering in the community

Jessica Shelton, Recruiter in the Americas makes a big difference for her community and gets involved with her whole family. “We do Saturday Serve days where we make meals for those in the community who have a need, and we have packaged kits for doctors and nurses to deliver to hospitals. I also pick up a group of girls from an assisted living facility to take them out for day trips to church, or out to eat to celebrate birthdays. The whole family gets involved, my 4 boys, and my parents as well!”

Team building & giving back

In our APAC region, the Hudson RPO talent specialists joined their client’s talent acquisition team on a mission to give back to the community. Megan Willoughby, Talent Acquisition specialist in Sydney shares:

“The TA team headed into the festive season as volunteers alongside Vinnies Support Centre. We assisted by arranging Christmas gifts that had been donated by the public. These gifts will be distributed to people experiencing poverty, disadvantage and homelessness in the community. It is safe to say the whole team came away feeling very inspired by everyone who worked at Vinnies. Thank you, Vinnies, for letting us get involved!”

Adina Rehman, Recruitment Specialist in the EMEA region, organized Christmas Jumper Day in the Edinburgh office to support Save the Children. And this year, her campaign also got the support of the offices in Americas and APAC. Christmas Jumper Day has been a long-standing tradition our Edinburgh Centre of Excellence and this year’s pictures might just be the best ones yet:

Getting Active to make a change

Verity Morrison, from our ANZ team, ran 30km(!) on Saturday November 26th in the ‘[MO]re Than A Run’ fundraising event in Sydney. The event raises important funds to support mens’ health, mental health, and suicide prevention. She tells us more about the event:

On the 26th November, we ran 1 of 3 distances representing mental health stats across Australia and New Zealand.

  • 10km for the one in ten men around the world living with an anxiety disorder
  • 30km for the 30% rise in the number of Australian men dying by suicide over the last decade / for the more than 30% of New Zealanders who have personally experienced mental distress.
  • 60km for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour around the world

It was a fantastic day, we started at Centennial Park where the 60km runners met up with us after their first 30km, and we ran up heartbreak hill to Bondi (where the pic of me running was taken halfway in at 15km) and back to the Homestead at Centennial to meet the 10km runners, before heading back to the Establishment for a fantastic event ran by Lululemon and [mo]re than a run – Nedd Brockman was briefly there! Run clubs across Australia and NZ participated on the same day, and joined together for celebrations at the end.”

Verity going the distance for men’s mental health

On the other side of the world, James Campbell in our EMEA region gives back to his community by volunteering at his local club and positively influencing the lives of the club’s minis:

“I started coaching rugby at a senior level as a volunteer in 2016 after playing for a long time. Through this I gained my coaching certificate from the SRU (Scottish Rugby Union). Since 2021 I have been volunteering with the mini section, primary 1 to 7, at my club since my son started playing. To see the kids taking on board and using the things you teach them is extremely rewarding. Even more so when you have fellow coaches from other clubs complimenting them.”

At Hudson RPO, we are so proud of our teams for everything they have accomplished this year, both in and outside of the workplace, and we hope to spotlight many more of our inspiring employees and their stories next year. Career progression in the Centre of Excellence with Gustavo Bonilla

Career progression in the Centre of Excellence with Gustavo Bonilla

Content Team

Gustavo knows a thing or two about career progression. As the Centre of Excellence (CoE) Delivery Lead in Tampa, it is not only his own career he shapes. Being in the field of talent, naturally he also transforms the careers of others and his team every day. Gustavo shares what it’s like to work at Hudson RPO and his recommendations for anyone looking to join the team in the future!

So where did it all start? After graduating and completing a variety of internships in different fields, Gustavo was searching for a job that would allow him to travel and see the world. His search eventually led him into the world of recruitment. From healthcare to logistics and retail, Gustavo quickly built extensive experience cross-industry. Shortly after he relocated from Orlando to Tampa, his expertise was noted by Hudson RPO recruiters, and we were lucky enough to welcome him into our team.

“I still remember walking into the office. I thought to myself, wow, this could be an incredibly fun place to work. During the interview, I got so motivated by how everyone welcomed me, their ambition, and what they were trying to build. This was at a time when the CoE was still very small, I was one of the first people in the office. I felt like at Hudson RPO, I could learn more and faster than anywhere else. Not even a year later I became CoE Delivery Lead!”

The Centre of Excellence, or CoE for short, can be described as a hub of knowledge and expertise. We like to describe it as our engine room. And for those looking to grow and develop, there is a lot on offer. Whether you want to learn new skills like X-Ray searches, sourcing on social media channels, or if you would like to brush up on existing skills after years of recruiting, you will find it in the CoE. But that’s not all; most importantly there is a learning culture that allows you to learn from senior managers, account managers and seasoned recruiters. As a CoE Lead, it is Gustavo’s job to understand where and how people want to grow and build the road that will get them there.

Tampa Coe team
Gustavo & the CoE team

“We want you to grow, to succeed, and the CoE is the perfect opportunity. From there you can take these skills anywhere your development takes you, for example into a client delivery position. This is because of our consistent training program aimed at developing your skills, the transparency around your development plan and career growth and lastly a network of highly skilled recruiters.”

Structures like these are unique to Hudson RPO. Instead of working on isolated roles for different clients, you get to know one existing account, inside out. Each of them comes with their own set of learning opportunities and teams, which opens avenues for learning at every level. Gustavo believes this is a huge benefit for anyone looking to increase their experience: “You are not stuck in one industry or place. If you have a strong interest in tech or the medical industry for example, there are accounts you can develop into to build your capabilities in recruitment.”

“Hudson RPO invests a lot of time in making sure you get proper training and guidance. Having the time to do this means you get to intensively work on the delivery of quality and an outstanding candidate experience from beginning to end. They make sure you are ready for whatever the world of recruitment could throw at you, I really appreciate that about Hudson RPO.”

But aside from the unique opportunities available, like rapid progression opportunities and learning and development, the company culture is what Gustavo considers the best thing about life at Hudson RPO.

“The company culture is a major win for me, I work with a whole bunch of great people in the office, who I can share my thoughts and challenges with, always. People in leadership are happy to listen to your ideas and open to making changes. This place is built around you and has the space for you to grow into whatever career path you choose.”

Gustavo’s advice for anyone considering joining Hudson RPO?

“If you are looking for key skills that will help you build your career, this is the place for you. The opportunities are there, and if you put in the effort and progression can happen very quickly. There is really no other company that reviews your progression and development with you every six months. Mix that with a great bunch of people to work with, and unlimited access to experience and guidance. I highly recommend it.”

In his free time, Gustavo likes to enjoy time in nature and on the beach.
